Some ISP blocked the default SMTP and POP3 ports on their firewall. This can help them to prevent spam and viruses, however this also cause problems on third-party email server.
China government censor emails on standard SMTP and POP3 ports, when their firewall is to busy, connections may drop.
Solution:
* Note: If you do not have any problem with email, do NOT change these settings.
If you use Outlook Express:
- close all other programs, open Outlook Express
- click Tools > Accounts
- double-click your email account
- click the [Advanced] tab
- change the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) port to 2525
- change the Incoming Mail (POP3) port to 5110
- click OK, click Close
- re-start Outlook Express
- try send yourself an email.
If you use Microsoft Outlook:
- close other programs, open Microsoft Outlook
- click Tools > Email Accounts > View or Change Email Accounts > Next
- double-click your email account
- click the [Advanced] tab,
- change the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) port to 2525
- change the Incoming Mail (POP3) port to 5110
- click OK, Next , Finish
- restart Outlook
- try to send yourself an email
If you use Macintosh OSX:
- close all other programs, open Mail
- click File > Preferences
- click the Accounts tab
- click Server Settings (under Outgoing Mail Server SMTP)
- change the server port (from 25) to 2525
- click OK
- click Advanced
- change the port (from 110) to 5110
- close the Accounts window, click Save Changes
- try to send yourself an email
